My mother being an avid animal mother, said we could keep her overnite with the agreement that she would need to be find her way back to her home the next morning. Needless to say, she stayed with us a very long time. With broken hearts we put her to sleep when I was 26.. I was gifted my first registered dog in 1983 and had my first Canadian Kennel Club registered litter in 1985. By 1989 I had the 4th top show Chow Chow in Canada and many successful champions. In 1993 my mother and I bought a large boarding center housing up to 85 dogs and 20 cats. This is where I met my first Portuguese water dog and fell in love. Such a happy, outgoing and robust breed I immediately decided that this breed definitely suited my lifestyle and personality. In 1996 I purchased my first Portuguese water dog "Phoebe" from Elaine Suter of Hunter Kennels. 2-years later I bred Phoebe to Beverley Jorgensens beautiful boy SunJoy's Master Plan "Moses" and we had a lovely singleton puppy Chiquita. The first female brown Champion PWD in Canada. My involvement in the dog community has been part of my entire adult life.
I am a lifelong member of the Canadian Kennel Club,
member of
the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America, the Portuguese Water Dog Club of Great Britain and the Portuguese Water Dog Club of Canada

In 1984 our family's first PWD came to join us at our home, Kara was the beginning of a passion for this breed.
In 2007 the Portuguese Water Dog received championship status and at Crufts that year we were proud breeders of the very first recipient of a Challenge Certificate in the breed, our first champion came in 2009.
In 2013 my mother died and it just left Byron and myself to continue the legacy she had left.
My passion for this breed has grown stronger over the years and I always aim to breed healthy well adjusted breed typical puppies, to date I have bred/owned/handled more champions in PWD than any other exhibitor/breeder/owner
It has taken many years of dedication to produce some of the top winning PWD in the UK and in 2015 a friendship was born when Romeo came to stay with Byron and I.
Working with Glenda has helped us realise many of my dreams and one of those dreams was that MacDuff & Rarjo bred the first PWD to hold the GB/CAN/AM champion titles.
our collaboration has seen our dogs cross back and forth across the Atlantic winning many accolades for both MacDuff and Rarjo.
one of my biggest achievements has been to judge the PWD at Crufts in 2018, a dream come true.
I currently take a back seat in the handling of the dogs, realising that the younger generations have the energy and passion to take the dogs to a higher level.

I started handling dogs in 2012, I had never really wanted to show before then, I would attend most of the shows with my mum and Nana but would prefer to just watch.
One day i asked my mother if i could have a go at handling a dog, she gave me Fin to handle and people would say i had a natural gift, I soon caught the bug and our friend S

One day i asked my mother if i could have a go at handling a dog, she gave me Fin to handle and people would say i had a natural gift, I soon caught the bug and our friend Sarah McGill gave me my very own dog. I was only allowed to have her if i promised to train her and not give up on the showing.
Coco was a fantastic bitch and loved coming to the shows, we competed in breed classes all over the UK, in 2013 I also had the great pleasure of competing at the World Congress in Portugal.
In 2015 a dream was realised when Coco and I were award our first Challenge Certificate at none other than the greatest dog show in the world, Crufts!
That year we formed a friendship and partnership with Glenda Newton when she sent Romeo to live with us for a few months, that few months turned in to 2, 6 month stays where Romeo became the most successful PWD in the UK by winning 4 groups at championship shows.
In 2019 Glenda sent Hudson to us to be shown and with him being a curly i put my trimming skills to good use, I have pushed the envelope on the presentation and Hudson has achieved top Dog status 32022 & 2023 and Best of Breed at Crufts while also winning 2 championship show groups.
Over the last year i have taken a little time away from the shows but my interest hasn't diminished, I have been enjoying time as a band member of Pineapple Bandits, however i have a new puppy to get trained and will be back showing in 2026.
